WebRumer Godden was an excellent novelist, thoughtful and considered, and this is a very good read. The characters - particularly the five siblings - are well written and the theme of loss of innocence sensitively handled. I recommend the book highly. Black Narcissus too. As for the films, Black Narcissus is excellent, The Greengage Summer less so.
